InSight Magazine and Irvine for Everyone are partnering to host a family-friendly, all ages welcome, creative crafts and compassion session to help homeless neighbors on April 25, Thurs, 5 to 7 pm, in Irvine. We invite you to join us: Design and write compassion notes, assemble basic supplies, and help experienced seamstresses sew backpacks into which they will be placed. Bring awareness to the homelessness crisis in Orange County and create immediate impact by empowering connections through the compassion kits.
You don’t have to be a seamstress to attend but if you are one and can bring your own machine, please consider volunteering on the sewing team. Invite a friend or family. Led by Suzanne K. the dedicated seamstress team will be making customized drawstring bags from a sewing kit which will contain a precut fabric for the backpack and straps, plus hardware to make a bag. Let us know when you RSVP that you will be a seamstress or send me an email at email@example.com.
Space is limited; the number of attendees may be capped at 30. Refreshments will be served. RSVP now to reserve your spot. The exact location will be sent closer to date to those who RSVP via the EventBrite link.
Background: Creative Crafts for a Cause: Handmade Backpacks and Compassion Kits For Homeless Neighbors is one of the many experiences you can sample from the Homelessness Demystified Buffet of Educational Experiences, that is currently underway from Feb. 2 – May 4, 2019. The Buffet was launched at the Winter Gathering, Homeless Demystified: Creating Awareness, Understanding, and Solutions, of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of Los Ranchos on Feb. 2, 2019 at Canvas, Irvine. It will end on May 4 when PWPLR reconvenes for its Spring Gathering with Homelessness Demystified: Strategic Directions and Missional Actions. Partnering with many groups and non-profits the Buffet or BEE has 7 different categories of ~25 learning experiences to help us #bethechange we want to see in the world. Choose from these activities to fix your plate of homelessness learning experiences, sampling from each category. InSight is a digital and print publication focused on making poverty visible and knowledge actionable. Irvine for Everyone is focused on increasing community awareness about homelessness and solutions to it.
