Thanks to PWP, I4E, InSight Magazine and other friends and neighbors for joining the first event in the series on Homelessness Demystified. It was a “full house” and everybody is excited about the Buffet of Educational Experiences, going on from now until May 4. The Buffet is offered by non profits and grassroots groups in the OC and Long Beach area. Below is feedback about Saturday’s program from some of the I4E participants, an invitation to download your personal copy of the Buffet, and tentative plans for the Spring Gathering on May 4th.
The panel this morning gave one of the best presentations I have heard, & I have heard a lot. And the artist and woman he brought with him touched us all. What a morning! Of course, then there is the masterful booklet with so many opportunities – just incredible. It must have taken a boat load of time and energy to pull together, but you and others did it. I was very impressed. And, wish to say thanks. – Beryl
I was in attendance yesterday. The takeaway is as follows… Homeless individuals are HUMAN BEINGS and should be treated as such. A woman who has been homeless for the past 33 years took the stage yesterday and shared her experience. It was an emotional experience for me, as I had tears welling up long before she finished speaking. It is an unrealistic expectation that our government alone will take care of this problem which has now reached epidemic proportions. It will take a collaborative effort from all of US to “grease the wheel” and make things happen! There are many avenues available to each and every one of us to help alleviate this epidemic. PLEASE get involved. – Jeff
The presenters were all terrific. We learned so much from a sociologist who is writing a book on his experiences with a homeless group in New Jersey, the chronology of the lawsuits involving criminalization of homelessness, and from a representative from a non-profit that builds permanent housing for homeless individuals. Excellent! Now we all have a chance to decide how we would like to get involved. If you missed this event, you can still get involved by picking an event from the list on this page https://irvineforeveryone.org/bee. – Virginia
Please join us and download your copy by clicking on this link: Buffet of Educational Experiences. (Click on Files to download and save.). All the Buffet Experiences are listed here. We all learn in different ways and so there are 7 categories with different learning goals, a total of ~25 Experiences including guided housing tours, volunteering, connection, advocacy, and other activities for you to sample. We recommend you experience one from each category. The Experiences are also online on the I4E digital library/website.
Two experiences are available this week: Feb. 5 is a Connection Experience – Office Hours with Attorney and Founder of OCPAC Mohammed Aly; and Feb. 8 is a Housing Experience – Jamboree Diamond Celebration – requiring an RSVP by the 5th, tomorrow. Go to the I4E link at http://irvineforeveryone.org/bee. Once there, scroll down to click on Connection Experiences to get the details for the meeting with Mr. Aly. Click on Housing Experiences and then, Jamboree #1 to RSVP for their event.

On May 4th we will reconvene for Homeless Demystified: Strategic Directions and Missional Action. Irvine for Everyone began last year in April. On May 4 we hope to start with a community forum where we will recognize the 2018 I4E signatories present and a forum where Buffet participants will share the highlights of their Experiences, and moving us into long-lasting intentional steps of individual and collective impact. Save the date!
Enjoy the Buffet of Educational Experiences or the BEE as we call it. We will continue to #BeTheChange, a fragrant offering of love during this special Valentine’s month of February. Thank you.
